Let’s Write a Story!

(August 6, 2011)  This  month, KRS hosted its August Saturday reading program at both Villa-Parke Community Center and Union Rescue Mission.  Following the regular reading hour (where students enjoyed reading books from the new libraries at each location), each KRS student, with the help of our wonderful KRS volunteers, crafted a story.  This exercise provided the KRS students with an opportunity to utilize vocabulary words and then sharpen their reading skills by reading their own story to KRS volunteers and fellow students.

KRS was proud to present this program in anticipation of September’s Saturday reading program.  Next month, authors (some of which are authors of books that are part of the new KRS libraries) will visit KRS and speak about being an author.  Now that the KRS students have created their own story and are authors themselves, we hope they enjoy our guest authors even more!

KRS will be operating at all three locations next month: STARS (where we will welcome back KRS students from their summer break), Villa-Parke Community Center and Union Rescue Mission.  To  volunteer, go to our Get Involved page.
